The Carrollton High School ROV team once again is heading to international competition to be held in Federal Way, Wash., next week, June 21-23.
CHS qualified for the honor by winning the Northern Gulf Coast Regional MATE ROV competition in Dauphin Island, Ala., in May, competing in the Ranger class.
When CHS entered its first international Remotely-Operated Vehicle, or ROV, competition in 2008, it placed 16th in the world. Most years since, the team has finished in the top 10 internationally. Bradford-Hunt noted the team has qualified for the international competition 10 out of the past 11 years.
Carrollton industry Magna Decostar has donated $500 to the team to help offset expenses associated with the trip. General Manager Fadi Chabbough presented a check to the team this week.
The International ROV competition features more than 1,200 contestants, judges, and officials from all around the world, including places like Hong Kong, Scotland, Egypt, Russia, Turkey, and Bermuda.
