Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Carroll County posted a record number of employed residents in May.

 

The area also saw a drop in the unemployment rate and increases in labor force – both positive indicators.

 

“Georgia’s economy remains very strong,” said Butler. “Across the board, the state’s numbers are very positive for the year and many areas continue to set records.”

 

In May, the number of employed residents in Carroll County grew to 53,891 – an all-time high. This is an increase of 185 for the month and 1,682 for the year.

 

Carroll County ended May with a labor force of 55,884. That is an increase of 72 from the previous month and an increase of 1,002 over the last year.

 

At the same time, the jobless rate fell to 3.6 percent, a drop of .2 percent over the previous month. A year ago, the jobless rate was 4.9 percent.

 

In the Carroll County, initial claims for unemployment were up about 25 percent for the month and up 10 percent for the year.

 

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed 271 active job postings in Carroll County for May.
