Today, Georgia Secretary of State Robyn A. Crittenden issued guidance to the state’s 159 county election offices ahead of the December 4th runoff election.
Counties are encouraged take all necessary steps so voters are able to cast their ballots in a timely manner. These include but are not limited to:
- Planning for high voter turnout during both advance/early voting and on Election Day.
- Ensuring that each polling place is equipped with the appropriate number of voting machines and ExpressPoll units based on the number of voters assigned to each polling place.
- Ensuring that all accessories (power cords, voter access cards, etc.) are with the assigned equipment going to polling places.
- Ensuring that all polling places are supplied with a sufficient number of provisional ballots and have a plan to re-stock as needed throughout advance/early voting and on Election Day.
Additionally, counties are encouraged to continue to take all necessary steps to tabulate and report results in a timely manner. These include but are not limited to:
- Being mindful of the number of absentee ballots requiring processing and tabulation on Election Day including having additional staff to assist with this process if needed.
- Tabulating early per O.C.G.A. § 21-2-386 (a)(G)(3) after 7:00 AM on Election Day (provided that all procedures outlined in this code section are followed). Counties with a large number of absentee ballots are encouraged to do so.
- Sending an Optical Scan (OS) and Touch Screen (TS) report with the final 5-column summary report in order to account for all DRE memory cards.
Please be advised that the deadline to register to vote in the runoff was October 9, 2018. |
