Seventy-two Carroll County Students recently participated in the regional Georgia Educational Student Technology Competition (GASTC) at the Donald W. Nixon Center in Newnan, Georgia.

Sixty-three of those students placed in the top three in their competition category.Finalists who earned first place at the regional GASTC will compete at the state level in March.

Carroll County Schools competed across 15 different categories. All categories were student created projects that were presented to a team of judges and evaluated based on documentation, complete and functional, creativity, understanding, and intended purpose. Carroll County has 22 students advancing to the state competition in Macon, Georgia. Bowdon Elementary, Whitesburg Elementary, Mount Zion Elementary, Ithica Elementary, Villa Rica High, Mount Zion High, Temple High, North CCA, and South CCA will be represented in this next level of competition.

Scott Cowart, Superintendent of Carroll County Schools stated, “We are extremely proud of the number of students advancing to the state competition. It is evident that our students are self-directed entrepreneurs who embrace opportunities to compete in such events that require careful reflection of their performance, the ability to refine their work, and continued perseverance to be innovative. We are looking forward to seeing our students compete at the state level and proudly demonstrate the premier opportunities available in our school system.”

GASTC is a statewide technology competition where students in grades 3-12 compete in a variety of technology categories. Their main goal is to challenge students to become leaders in a digital age through digital creation.Courtney Rogers, Coordinator of Instructional Supports stated, “Participating in the district, region, and state competition provides our administrators, teachers, and parents the opportunity to celebrate our students’ talents to champion future leaders in a technology-driven work industry.”
