Tuesday night the County Commission approved a no-bid purchase contract for tractors, by a 4-1 vote.  The only sane vote was the lone dissent by the Interim Chair. What kind of a calamity circus is now playing on Tuesday nights?  One Commissioner said he conducted every type of micr-managing due diligence one would expect of a mid-level purchasing manager with the sole exception of checking for comparable bids.  This from someone who most recently faithfully promised to be a good steward of taxpayer money.  Another said comparable tractors could be purchased for less money but what the heck, he voted for the no-bid extravagance anyway.  He said we’d do better the next time.  Two Chairman wannabes, who have professed their business acumen to the taxpayers, still voted for this insulting waste of taxpayers money.  Perhaps this explains why gasoline and beef are expensive in Carroll County.  I say these two Chairman wannabes and the others should run like a deer; back into the woods.  One wannabe proclaimed he had to stand by his word; yet he still voted to waste our money.  Apparently, he gave his word to somebody other than the taxpayers. This type insult to taxpayers must stop now!  In a Kecskes administration, all major purchases will be advertised for competitive bid.  In a Kecskes administration, there will be a strong ethics ordinance wherein no Commissioner will be permitted to accept campaign donations from any County Commission Vendor, including in-kind contributions, such as playing golf with vendors.  Talk about conflicts of interest!  County Commissioners should be held to the highest standards, the first being good stewards of the county purse.  It’s our tax money and we taxpayers expect it to be spent judiciously and wisely.  That means if two vendors are selling comparable items, you purchase the least expensive one.
