Rita Christine Gardner Smith, age 74 of Douglasville, Georgia passed away Sunday, September 8, 2019. She was born April 6, 1945 in Trion, Georgia, the daughter of the late Mr. Robert Lee Gardner and the late Mrs. Vera Henderson Gardner.

Mrs. Smith was active at the Atlanta Union Mission with her husband. She worked with and supported her husband who was chaplain at Douglasville Nursing and Rehab for many years. She participated in several mission trips to Mexico with her church family.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband of 54 years, Rev. Wesley Maxwell Smith of Douglasville, Georgia; sons and daughters-in-laws, Gardner and Tammie Smith of Villa Rica, Georgia, Greg and Wendi Smith of Dallas, Georgia; sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Clyde Latta of Rome, Georgia; five grandchildren, Crystal, Breanna, Matthew, Makensey, and Marymadelyn; twelve great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will receive friends at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home Tuesday, September 10, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, September 11, 2019 at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home of Douglasville with Rev. Fred Blalock and Rev. Bobby Woods officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehaven Cemetery.
