On November 14 and again on November 19, Jones-Wynn Funeral Homes and Crematory held their 20th annual Remembrance Services in the Douglas Chapel and Villa Rica Chapel, respectively. The Remembrance Service began when the late Charles Wynn and his wife Dana felt that they, and families, needed a time to gather and remember beyond the early days of loss and grieving. Dana Wynn shared, “Charles and I wanted a time for memories, a time to reflect. We envisioned a moment in time when we could join others in looking back and acknowledge that when you love, and you experience loss, there is tremendous pain, but it is the price we pay for our eternal love. Grief is an unwanted journey, a path that often feels lonely. Joining others who are traveling that path can soothe the soul and provide comfort. We believed that a service full of love, hope and healing, not a reminder of the funeral or memorial service, could be a time to hope, heal, and remember. Sometimes the warmth of a loving memory can bring light to what may seem a dark path forward. The fellowship of others on that path can provide courage, strength, and support.”
The 2019 Remembrance Services preceded the Holiday Season with an important message of hope, love, and sweet memories. Families arrived to light refreshments and the warm embrace of friendship and compassion. Ellen Wynn McBrayer shared heartfelt words of encouragement, courage, and gratitude for all in attendance. Kelli Blankenship and Jeff Pate lit candles representing loved ones, hope, and love. Scott McBrayer invited the children present to join him as he read a grief book for children titled, The Invisible String, by Patrice Karst. Reverend Jim Grimmie spoke sincerely of the emotional challenges of the coming holidays. He shared a message of peace, memories, remembering, surviving and having the courage to try. Then an on-screen Remembrance presentation included inspiring music as loved ones names appeared and families stood in their honor. A glass memorial keepsake ornament was presented in memory of each life remembered and holiday focused grief help books were given. There were tears, hugs, smiles, and a true sense of warmth, love, and togetherness at night’s end.
