James “Jim” H. Porter, Jr., age 33, of Carrollton, Georgia passed away Monday, May 18, 2020.

Jim was born in Carroll County, Georgia on March 16, 1987, the son of James Howard Porter, Sr. and Rita Terry Porter.

He was a 2005 graduate of Heard County Comprehensive High School and attended the University of West Georgia where he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity. Jim worked as a Bowdon Police Officer and was part of the GBI West Metro Regional Drug Task Force. He previously worked as a Corporal for Heard County Sheriff’s Department. Jim was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and attended Carrollton First United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Erin Barr Porter; children, Augustus (Gus) Houston Porter, Elizabeth (Elsie) Jo Porter, Sadie Monroe Porter; parents, Jimmy and Rita Porter of Cartersville; sister and brother-in-law, Vanessa Porter (Josh) Thornhill; niece, Mackenzie Newman; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Meredith Barr of Carrollton; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Mark Sanders; nephew, Hugh Sanders; grandparents-in-law, Lee and Nita Barr, Melinda Aitken and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred Masdon Porter, Elsie Lee Bramlett, Norris Ray Terry and Dorothy Howard Terry.

A graveside service and interment will be held Thursday, May 21, 2020 at 1 p.m. at Centralhatchee First Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Joe Driver, Rev. Neil Awbrey and Rev. Larry Patton officiating. The Carrollton Police Department Honor Guard will provide honors.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Lane, Shane Hannah, Cory Paul Shelnutt, Kyle Yates, Jake Yates, Matthew Dean, Chad Brown, Brandon Wiggins, Dalton Wiggins, Drew Fowlkes, John Lewis and Tucker Reynolds.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Erin Porter and Family fund at any Synovus Bank branch.

A Celebration of Life service will be held later once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.
