The Elections Division of the Georgia Secretary of State’s Office is overseeing a public audit of the Presidential Preference Primary on Monday to verify the accuracy of the election results.

The Fulton County Registration and Elections Board, with the advice of the state Elections Division and VotingWorks, will conduct a risk-limiting audit of the Democratic contest.

A risk-limiting audit follows established procedures to manually count a random sample of ballots in order to ensure that the tally reached by voting machines falls within a mathematically appropriate range agreed upon by national voting-integrity experts such as VotingWorks.Georgia has only been able to audit election results since the introduction of the new secure paper-ballot system.

Audits successfully supported results in last fall’s municipal elections that piloted use of the paper-ballot system and in a February special legislative election.

Monday’s audit is open to the public. It begins at 9 a.m. at the Fulton County Elections Preparation Center, 1365 English St., NW, Atlanta.
