Carroll County Community Theatre’s production of the musical comedy Something Rotten rocks the Renaissance and shakes up Shakespeare, March 8 – 10 and 15 – 17 at Carrollton Center for the Arts.

“I am thrilled to bring this production to our Carrollton audiences,” said the play’s director, Taylor Buice. “This musical is a delightful blend of humor, heart and pure joy. Audiences can expect an evening filled with laughter and unforgettable music that will leave them smiling long after the final curtain.”

In the 1590s, brother playwrights Nick and Nigel Bottom are stuck in the shadow of that Renaissance rock star: Shakespeare. When a local soothsayer says the future of theatre is singing, dancing and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world’s very first musical. 

“Funny, funny, funny mixed with great music, dancing and singing,” said Arts Center Manager Tim Chapman. “This musical was nominated for 10 Tony Awards in 2015 and is pure fun with an exclamation mark!”

Chapman noted Something Rotten may contain some subject matter that might fall under the PG-13 film rating, so parental guidance is suggested for young people.
