The Carroll County Democratic Committee is convening a rally Monday June 24 at the Martin Luther King Jr park next to the Carroll Couty Courthouse at 6pm. The Carroll County Dems invite everyone who supports women’s rights and all human rights to join us to show your support for our fundamental rights and freedoms. The rally will include speeches from Planned Parenthood, Maura Keller-candidate for Congress and others.
On June 24, 2022 the Republican appointees to the US Supreme Court took away a woman’s right to make her own health care choices in the Dobbs v Jackson decision. Since that time a flood of legislation and litigation by Republicans has severely restricted access to reproductive health care for women in states across the nation.
“The time could not be more pertinent to lay out what is at stake as we approach the significant two year anniversary of the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Our work across Georgia for our patients and advocates alike is crucial in protecting our access to choice, freedoms, and liberties over our bodies. I look forward to joining the Carroll County Democratic Committee on this important day,” said Hannah Davis, Georgia Public Policy and Organizing Manager with Planned Parenthood Southeast.
Maura Keller, congressional candidate and guest speaker at Rally for Our Rights, said “Two difficult years have passed since the Dobbs decision, and that is why healthcare is the cornerstone of my campaign. Georgia is facing a growing crisis when it comes to maternal/infant mortality, and reproductive healthcare as a whole. In 2024, every vote is integral to addressing these issues.”
In 2019 Georgian Republicans passed a ban on abortion after six weeks of pregnancy, before many women even know they are pregnant. The law went into effect in November 2022.
“The Georgia law joins dozens of others Republicans are pushing to use the government to restrict individual liberties and undermine health care,” stated Bryan Hager, Chair of the Carroll County Democratic Committee. “Like the law to limit healthcare for transgender children and the failure to expand Medicaid Georgian’s Republicans have shown a deep disregard to the health of women and children,” continued Hager.
