Billie Jo “B.J.” Hampton, age 68, of Douglasville, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. Born on November 5, 1957, in Tucker, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late William Neal Bazemore and Elfriede Magadelena Tietjien Bazemore. She graduated from Clarkston High School.
B.J. was exceptionally intelligent and seemed to excel at anything she put her mind to do. Early in her career, she worked as an auditor for Home Depot and helped drive the company’s early success. Her intelligence was matched by a natural ability to lead, organize, and bring people together. Throughout her life, she used those gifts not only professionally but also to serve her community.
For many years, B.J. was a familiar and beloved presence at the Arbor Station Club Complex, where she served as manager. She genuinely loved the children who came through The Club, and they returned that love in abundance. She also served as PTA President, Board Member of Arbor Station Homeowners Association, American Legion Auxiliary and was an active community leader, always willing to invest her time and talents in the people and places that mattered to her. She loved Jesus and was a member of Central Baptist Church, Douglasville.
More than anything, B.J. was a people person. She wore her heart on her sleeve and had a remarkable ability to connect with others. She listened in a way that made people feel seen, heard, and important. People naturally gravitated toward her, and the Hampton home became a gathering place for her sons and their friends. B.J. had a way of making people want to be around her, and many of those relationships endured well beyond childhood.
She was beautiful, classy, and always impeccably dressed and put together. B.J. carried herself with a presence that people noticed when she entered a room, but there was far more to her than outward beauty. She believed in good manners, treating people well, presenting yourself with confidence, and doing things the right way. She intentionally instilled those values in her children and later in her grandchildren.
As a mother, B.J. was fierce in both her love and her protection. She loved her family wholeheartedly and was their advocate, encourager, confidante, and protector. The same strength that defined so much of her life was perhaps most evident in how she cared for those she loved. After the sudden death of her sister Jodie, B.J. and her husband Mike assumed guardianship of her young nephew Timothy Bazemore and nurtured him through challenging times and provided him with a loving family unit. Her family always knew that B.J. was in their corner.
For 41 years, she shared her life with her loving husband, Michael (Mike) Hampton. Together, they built a successful business, where they owned and operated Whitesburg Super Save for thirty-five years, but most importantly, they built a life and a home that became much more than a place for their own family; it became a place where countless others felt comfortable, welcomed, and cared for. Their marriage and the family they created together remained among the great treasures of B.J.’s life.
B.J. possessed a wonderfully curious mind throughout her life. She had a particular fascination with forensic science and loved reading Patricia Cornwell novels, interests that perfectly suited her intelligence and inquisitive nature. Whether she was learning something new, spending time with people she loved, or pursuing something that captured her interest, B.J. rarely did anything halfway. When she set her mind to something, she became remarkably good at it.
Some people’s influence extends far beyond the roles and titles they held, and B.J. was one of them. Her legacy lives on in her family, in the children whose lives she touched, in the friends who gathered around her kitchen and sought her counsel, and in the many people who walked away from a conversation with her feeling a little more understood. She will be remembered for her intelligence and beauty, her class and confidence, her fierce devotion to family, and, above all, for the way she connected with people and made them feel that what they had to say truly mattered.
B.J. leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband, Michael Hampton; her sons, Joshua Fulson and his significant other, Tristan Beymer, William “Billy” Fulson and his wife, Breanne Fulson, and Jarrod Hampton and his significant other, Daisy Cote; her grandsons, Loudon Fulson and Liam Fulson; her sisters and brother-in-law, Patrishia Bazemore Kendall and her husband, Stephen, and Virginia “Ginney” Rowland; and her brother, Robert “Bobby” Bazemore and his wife, Sandie; her father-in-law, Jimmy Hampton and her sister-in-law, Kathy Daniels and fifteen nephews and four nieces.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Jodie Allmon.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 2:30 p.m. in the chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, with Jamie Doss officiating and Billy Fulson and Bobby Bazemore delivering the eulogy. Interment will follow at West Georgia Memorial Park Cemetery.
Joshua Fulson, Billy Fulson, Jarrod Hampton, Clint Rowland, Drew Bazemore, and Scottie O’Neal will serve as pallbearers. Loudon Fulson and Liam Fulson will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
