A Carrollton businessman and parent of three children who attend Carrollton City Schools has been appointed to serve on state School Supt. Richard Wood’s Parent Advisory Council.

Chad Houck, owner of Irish Bred Pub on the square in Carrollton, and his wife Kelly are supportive parents of Carson, a fifth grader at Carrollton Middle School, and twins Presley and Tatum, who are in the second grade at Carrollton Elementary. Both have been heavily involved in their children’s education, serving in various volunteer capacities as well as serving on School Governance Teams.

“I am extremely humbled and honored to represent our school system at the state level,” said Houck. “This will be a great learning experience for me and I am very excited that I was selected to participate.”

The State School Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council is a group of parents from across the state that provides input on new policies, projects, and materials that impact students and their families. Advisory Council members are particularly focused on how to increase parent and family engagement to ensure student academic success. Members serve as advisers and meet with the state school superintendent several times throughout their two-year term.

Houck will serve on a panel of 30 parents in addition to representatives from state organizations dedicated to serving families. He was nominated by CMS Principal Stacy Lawler.

Houck said he is looking forward to becoming even more involved in education at the state level.

“I have really enjoyed serving on the SGT board at my children’s school for the past two years,” he said. “Having the ability to help our school system improve the students’ overall learning experience is something I am very passionate about.

“I also think it would be a great opportunity for me to be able to not only contribute but also listen to other ideas and bring back some great information for Carrollton City Schools,” he continued.

Dr. Mark Albertus, superintendent of Carrollton City Schools, said he was pleased to see Houck selected to participate on this prestigious council.

“Mr. Houck is a very involved parent who has a lot of energy and enthusiasm,” he said. “His service not only will benefit our school district but the state as a whole.”
