Carrollton, GA – March 4, 2019:  In the aftermath of the tornadoes that devastated portions of Alabama and south Georgia over the weekend, Southwire’s Project GIFT will host a Blanket Brigade to provide warmth to victims of the storms.

In a matter of a few short hours on Sunday, March 3, homes, businesses and neighborhoods were destroyed, many residents were injured and more than 20 lives were claimed as a result of the storms that ravaged the Southeast. Among the areas in greatest need are Lee County, Ala. and Talbot and Grady Counties in Georgia.

“The tornadoes completely devasted such a vast area,” said Kersha Cartwright, Southwire’s Project GIFT Coordinator. “We are hoping to provide some warmth and comfort to those displaced and affected by the massive storms.”

Southwire’s Project GIFT is partnering with the Community Foundation of West Georgia to provide an option for online giving. Individuals and businesses interested in contributing to the drive can visit www.cfwg.net/PROJECTGIFT to donate. Each $10 donation will sponsor a blanket for those in need. New blankets are also being collected at the guard house at Southwire’s corporate building at One Southwire Drive in Carrollton.

“We are trying to move quickly to provide much needed blankets to these communities not only suffering from storm damage, but also extreme temperatures,” said Cartwright. “Providing an online option for donating will hopefully make giving easier, helping make a larger impact on those communities in need.”
