Sylvia Nixon Walker, 90, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, surrounded by family and friends. She was a native of Carroll County, born on August 2, 1933, the daughter of Aubrey Ludwell Nixon Sr. and Leila McLeod Nixon.

Mrs. Walker was a long-time member of the Bethesda Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. 

On August 18, 1956, Sylvia married the love of her life, Charles Edward Walker. God blessed them with one son, Terry Walker.

Her career was in banking for more than 40 years. Mrs. Walker and Sara Burnett were two of the first women officers at West Georgia National Bank, leading the way for women to follow. She worked as a branch manager for several years and retired as a Vice President.

Not only did she work at the bank, but she also loved helping her husband, ED, and son, Terry, work on the farm. Sylvia was always doing for and serving others.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ed Walker.

Sylvia is survived by her devoted son, Terry Walker; nephews and nieces, Michael & Ginger Nixon, Melissa & Tommy Robinson, and Amy & Tony Moore; and numerous great nieces & nephews.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM from Martin and Hightower Funeral Home, with Pastor Mike Holloway and Pastor Tony Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Bethesda Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Friday, February 9, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Saturday, February 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM until the hour of service.
