Robert Emmitt Wharton, age 72, passed away on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. He was born on May 30, 1951, in Queens, New York, the son of the late Leonard Wharton and Margaret Munich Wharton.

Robert was a patriotic man who proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps. After his service, he worked as a truck driver for many years with Yellow Corporation, where he enjoyed the open road and the freedom of the highway. Robert was an avid traveler who loved exploring new places, especially the beach and Ireland. He had a zest for life and was the life of the party, always making people laugh and feel at ease. He cherished spending time with his friends, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his wife, children, and grandchildren. Robert had a big heart and will be truly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.

He leaves behind to cherish his memory his loving wife, Karen Johnson Wharton; his daughter, Megan Wharton (Chris Ledingham); his son, Shawn Owens (Tatiana Rivera); grandchildren, Karlee Ledingham, Athenia Rivera, and Aiden Rivera; sister, Ginger Flynn; brother, Michael Wharton and Jean Roux.

A funeral service will be held to honor and celebrate Robert’s life on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at 4:00 PM from the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM. Following the service, Mr. Robert’s body will be cremated.
