Robert “Buell” Stamps, age 91 of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was born February 16, 1926 in Carrollton, Georgia, the son of the late Olin L. Stamps and the late Bertie Cole Stamps.
He graduated from Mt. Zion High School, was a World War II Army veteran, and was a member of the Buck Creek Lodge #639. A longtime, faithful member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School, and sang in the Choir.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister, Bernice Earnest.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Mrs. Julia Hughes Stamps, to whom he was married December 7, 1947; his son and daughter-in-law, Phil & Teresa Stamps of Carrollton; his daughter and son-in-law, Karen & John Wood, also of Carrollton; seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Rev. Chad Eason and Rev. Donald Voyles officiating.
The body will be placed in the church on Thursday at 10:30 AM. Music will be rendered by Sylvia Cook, Kaimen Stamps and Doug Jenkins.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Chad Wood, Clay Wood, John Morgan, Grant Davis, Bryan Stamps, Chris Stamps, and Jonathan Stamps. Members of the Board of Deacons and members of the Senior Adults Sunday School Class will be seated as honorary pallbearers.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the American Legion Post #143 in charge of the flag presentation.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
