US Army Retired Master Sergeant Freddie T. Hardegree, 90, of Carrollton, GA went to be with our Heavenly Father on Monday, June 18, 2018. He was at home surrounded by the love and comfort of his wife of 65 years, Martha “Mickey” and their children, Patti and Elaine.

Born on February 13, 1928, to the late Harry C. and Elizabeth “Bessie” Preston Hardegree. Freddie was always an adventurous child who loved to be outdoors. He was drafted by the US Army at the age of 18. He traveled the United States and the world as a proud soldier, visiting over 5 countries. During his 23 years of active duty, he proudly served on the front line in Japan during the U.S. Repatriation and in both the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts. He often shared that his favorite part of duty was the wonderful friends he met along the journey.

Freddie retired from the U.S. Army in 1972 and continued civil service with the Panama Canal Commission in the former Panama Canal as Chief of Sanitation until his retirement in 1989. After his retirement, he and Mickey returned to the states where he enjoyed taking care of his farm and pastures, cutting lawns, fishing, making homemade ice cream and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of Midway Macedonia Baptist Church.

Freddie, AKA “Big Daddy”, will be greatly missed by his wife Martha “Mickey” Pearce Hardegree; daughters, Patti C. Jacques (Steven) and F. Elaine McDaniel, both of Carrollton, GA; four grandchildren, Alicia Gleiter Ward (Justin) of Charleston, SC, Autumn Garber Griffin (David) of Carrollton, GA, Jackson T. deGaris (Lexie) of Jacksonville, FL, Amanda “Mandy” Garber Wissel (Randy) of Denver, CO; five great grandchildren, Jacob Ward, Noah Ward, Grace Ward, Olivia Wissel, Charlotte deGaris; brother, Tommy Hardegree of Carrollton, GA; sister-in-law, Julia Preston Neely of Carrollton, GA and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his in-laws, Radford and Ophelia Johnson Pearce; son-in-law, Ricky J. McDaniel and sister-in-law, Virginia Hardegree.

The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 p.m. until the service hour.

A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at 3p.m. from the Almon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Barry Thompson officiating and Mr. Jackson deGaris providing the eulogy.

A reception will follow at Midway Macedonia Baptist Church.

The US Army will be providing full military honors.
