Event to showcase new NICU, area vendors and more

Becoming a new mother creates a torrent of emotion like no other life experience — excitement, love, uncertainty, fear. New mothers have all kinds of questions, and the ones that are the scariest are often the ones you don’t know you should ask.

To help new mothers find the answers and support they need, Tanner Health System is hosting the Hey, Baby! Mom and Baby Fair on Saturday, Aug. 25, at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton. The event promises to offer new mothers — including those who are expecting, who recently delivered or even those who are thinking about starting a family — a fun look at everything the region has to offer.

The fair is also a celebration of the expansion of Tanner’s maternity services and will feature tours of the new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, as well as the facility’s new labor and delivery suites, nursery and postpartum unit.

The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton. The event is free, and registration is available online at tanner.org/heybaby.

The new NICU continues Tanner’s long commitment to maternity care. The first patient to receive care at the original Tanner Memorial Hospital was a new mother who delivered a baby daughter at the brand new hospital.

In the years since, the organization has cultivated a leading-edge women’s care program, featuring a comprehensive approach to care for women at every stage of life. From maternity care to a team of board-certified OB-GYN specialists, minimally invasive and robotic-assisted surgical options, advanced cancer care services, 3-D digital mammography and comprehensive breast cancer care, women’s heart care and more, Tanner Women’s Care works to deliver seamless healthcare services close to home.

The Hey, Baby! Mom and Baby Fair will include a number of local baby-focused vendors, including the Beauty Counter, Carroll County Ferst Foundation, Carroll County Health Department, Cozy Care, Horton’s Books, Kreations Art Factory, Need It Most LLC, Nursing from the Heart, LLC, One Life Fitness, Southern Therapy, Tummy Time Maternity Boutique and more. Participants will also have a chance to meet a host of physicians from Tanner’s medical staff, including obstetricians and gynecologists, pediatricians and neonatologists.

Expecting mothers can register for exciting door prizes, including gift packages from Target, gift cards to area retailers, a Medela breast pump, gym visits from One Life Fitness, educational giveaways and more. All women who register will receive a special gift bag from Tanner.

The event will feature free educational classes on a host of subjects, from transitioning into parenthood to a primer (or refresher) for new dads and siblings. Tanny the Turtle, the Tanner ReadER mascot, will be on hand for story time and a DJ-led dance party for kids.

Tanner’s new NICU provides critical care services to the region’s most fragile newborns, including those born prematurely, with physical issues at birth that require medical intervention, and multiple births (such as triplets). For babies who need these services, they will now be available in Carrollton so new parents can remain close to their newborns without having to travel to NICUs in Columbus, Atlanta or farther away in the often difficult days following a delivery.
