Georgia Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said Thursday that Carroll County set records in July for growing its labor force and employed residents.

At the same time, the county saw its unemployment rate fall to 4.1 percent and monthly unemployment claims grow. All indicators remain positive for the year.

“Georgia continues to be in a period of sustained growth,” Butler said. “There are no indicators in July that Georgia’s growth is going to slow down anytime soon.”

The July unemployment rate dropped 0.3 percent in July to reach 4.1 percent. It was 5.3 percent one year ago.

The labor force increased in July by 165 to reach 56,588 total members. – a new record. The number has climbed by more than 1,100 over the past 12 months, an average of more than 90 per month.

Carroll County added 306 new employed residents in July, pushing its total to an all-time high 54,272. That number has grown by more than 1,700 over the past year, about 140 per month.

Initial claims for unemployment grew by about 22 percent for the month but are down by about 9 percent for the year.

Employ Georgia, the GDOL’s online job listing service at employgeorgia.com showed 318 active job postings in Carroll County for July.
