ATLANTA (January 18, 2019) | Sen. Matt Brass (R – Newnan) was recently appointed to serve as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities and to serve on several influential committees for the 2019 Legislative Session by the Senate Committee on Assignments.
“I am honored to be asked to serve as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities,” said Sen. Brass. “This committee is vital in overseeing some of our state’s most important resources such as telecommunications, gas and electricity. I look forward to working with members of all of the committees I serve on to ensure each piece of legislation receives the proper amount of time and attention.”
In addition to serving as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Regulated Industries and Utilities, Sen. Brass will serve as Chairman of the Reapportionment and Redistricting Committee, as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Economic Development and Tourism and as Secretary of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and the Environment.
“The Senate Committee on Assignments put great thought into our Chair – and Vice Chair – assignments,” said Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan. “Vice Chairs hold an important position in the committee leadership structure and we have assembled an incredibly prepared group of leaders – including Sen. Brass – who are ready to get to work for our state.”
Once a piece of legislation is introduced in the Senate, it is assigned to a committee, depending on its topic. If the committee gives the legislation a “do pass” recommendation, then the proposed law is sent to the Rules Committee for consideration. The appointed chairs will oversee the operation and order of Senate committee meetings, including calling for action on bills, resolutions or other matters assigned to that committee.
The first session of the 155th Georgia General Assembly convened on January 14, 2019, at the Georgia State Capitol.
