Mr. Harvie “Lewis” Thornton, age 83 of Bowdon, Georgia, passed away Friday evening, January 25, 2019 at Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.  He was born December 4, 1935 in Carroll County, Georgia, the son of the late J. B. Thornton and the late Camellia Scandlin Thornton. 

He was retired from the United States Army, having served his country for twenty-four years.  Following retirement, he worked with Daniel Construction Company for two years at Plant Wansley, and worked with Tanner Medical Center as a Security Guard for eight years.  Mr. Thornton was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Billy Thornton.  Survivors include his wife, Etta Jackson Thornton of Bowdon; son, David Thornton of Pampa, Texas; step daughters: Pam Huckeba (Joey) of Carrollton, Kathy Young (Chuck) also of Carrollton; step son: Tim Thompson (Paula) of Bowdon; sisters: Marcella Waddy of Newnan and Vicky Miller (Jerry) of Villa Rica; one grandchild and six step grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be conducted Monday, January 28, 2019 at 2:30 PM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. Darnell Teal officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Mike Thornton, Anthony Young, Hunter Thornton, Chris Miller, Adam Miller, and Joey Miller.  Interment will follow in the Lowell Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Miller presiding. 

Military honors, with graveside pallbearers, will be under the direction of the United States Army. 

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
