CARROLLTON, GA – Eight Carrollton High School techies have qualified to compete at the state level after winning first place in the West Georgia Technology Competition held last month in Newnan.
The team of Jason Portillo and Colby Levens won the top prize in Device Modification, Montana Freeman and Peyton Carrollton placed first in Project Programming, and Kishan Patel and Will Brown earned top honors for Productivity. Individual first placers included Michael Mendez in App Development and Nicholas Mansour in Internet Applications.

Carrollton had a strong showing among state alternates who placed second at the competition: Jalen Stephens and Garred Lin in Robotics, Matthew Willis in Graphic Design, Eli Nunez in Programming Challenge, and Cade Riggs in Photo Production.

Third placers included Andrew Bell and Graham Satterfield in Multimedia Presentation, Richard San Nicholas in Video Production, and Jordan L. Smith in 3D Modeling.

Carrollton Middle School saw three fifth graders win awards in the lower-school competitions with two first-place finishers, Aileen Yanney in Device Modification and Carson Houck in Digital Game Design, and a second-place recipient, Camren Harley, in Animation.

The West Georgia Technology Competition (formerly the West Georgia Technology Fair) is an annual technology competition for students who attend public schools, private schools, and home schools in Carroll County, Carrollton City, Coweta County, Fayette County, Griffin/Spalding, Harris County, Heard County, Meriwether County, and Troup County.

The first-place high school winners at this regional are invited to participate in the Georgia Student Technology Competition held in March at Middle Georgia State College in Macon.
