Frances Reba Crook Yates, 92, passed away Sunday, February 17, 2019, at her home in Veal, Ga. She was the widow of the late Ford B. Yates. Mrs. Yates was born in Carroll County, June 24, 1926, the only child of Will Lorenzo Crook and Mildred Corene Rigsby Crook Smith. She graduated from Centralhatchee High School and attended Berry College in Rome, Ga. She attended and was a longtime member of Veal Baptist Church.
FrFances and Ford Yates, married Oct 8, 1945, were married for 57 years until his death in October 19, 2002. Mrs. Yates retired after 22 ½ years of service with the Bowdon and Bremen Investment Co. She enjoyed traveling, church, cooking, visiting with neighbors, working and caring for her flowers and her family, and was known to deliver pound cakes, pecan pies, banana bread and cookies to doctors, nurses, friends and anyone who she thought might need some of her wonderful desserts.
She is survived by her children: Gwynn and Becky Yates of Veal, Ga., Sue and Ken Entrekin of Atlanta, Ga., and Syble and Dan Cowart of Douglasville, Ga.
She is also survived by her grandchildren: Clint and Heather Yates of Tampa, Fl., Jason and Jennifer Yates of Carrollton, Ga., Amanda and Chris Posey of Bremen, Ga., Angela and Brian Medley of Roswell, Ga., Cliff and Riyani Entrekin of Hong Kong, Kelli and Matthew Chastain of Panama City Beach, Fl.
Great grandchildren include Dylan Yates, Daulton Yates, Claudia Yates, Ansley Yates, Lana Posey, Braylon Posey, Kason Posey, Crysta Posey, Savannah Medley, Nathan Medley, Jack Medley, Evie Chastain and Adie Chastain.
Mrs. Yates had one great-great granddaughter, Edaline Yates.
Mrs. Yates is preceded in death by her parents Will L. Crook and Mildred Rigsby Crook Smith, husband Ford Yates, half-brothers, Roger Crook and Tony Crook, and grandson Zachary Cowart.
Frances Yates was a strong Christian woman who loved her family and never met a stranger; she will be missed dearly by all those who had the fortune of knowing her and having her in their lives.
Funeral service will be conducted Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 3:00 PM from Veal Baptist Church with Rev. Wesley Boatman, Rev. Ralph Caldwell, and Rev. Kevin Geter officiating. Interment will follow in Veal Community Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Jason Yates, Clint Yates, Cliff Entrekin, Brian Medley, Chris Posey, Matthew Chastain, and Nathan Medley. Honorary pallbearers will be her Sunday School Class. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
