Jo Johnson, age 78 of Carrollton, reached her heavenly home on February 25, 2019 surrounded by loved ones. She was born January 11, 1941 in Carrollton, Georgia, daughter to the late Cecil Leon Shumake and Rosa Lee Morris Shumake.
She was a retired pastorial secretary after having served at Tabernacle Baptist Church for more than 18 years and was still a devoted member. She was an active member of the Linda Haney Sunday School Class up until her failing health and was a Carrollton High School graduate.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Sherri Johnson.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Hyron Johnson of Carrollton; daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Philip Plummer of Catlettsburg, KY, and Janet and Monty Alston of Sharpsburg, GA; grandchildren, Rhyan and Shane Presnal, Justin Alston, Misti Alston, and Jacob Plummer; great grandchildren, Maddison Presnal, Avery Presnal, and Sherri-Grace Presnal; and great-great grandchild, Sawyer Presnal.
Funeral service will be conducted Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 1:00 PM from Tabernacle Baptist Church with Dr. Jimmy Gentry and Dr. Stephen Allen officiating. Interment will follow in Indian Creek Baptist Church with the following loved ones serving as pallbearers: Monty Alston, Philip Plummer, Maddison Presnal, Avery Presnal, Jacob Plummer, and Justin Alston.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Linda Haney Sunday School Class.
The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel on Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tabernacle Baptist Church. Messages of condolences can be sent to the family at www.martin-hightower.com .
