A Carroll County commissioner with a strong business background has announced her intentions to seek election to serve the county as chair, a post vacated when Commission Chairman Marty Smith resigned to accept a state appointment to Gov. Brian Kemp’s administrative team.

District 4 Commissioner Michelle Morgan said she appreciated the leadership and guidance Smith provided as the county leader and wants to support this legacy.

“I am thrilled for Marty Smith with his appointment to serve with Governor Kemp,” said Morgan. “Marty is a neighbor and friend who has served Carroll County well. I know he will be an asset to our state government and I wish him and his family the very best. Now, we must ensure that we continue to move Carroll County forward into an even brighter and more prosperous future,” she continued. “That is why I am excited to announce my candidacy for chair of the Carroll County Board of Commissioners.”

Morgan’s leadership experience encompasses work as a small business owner, exceptional community involvement, and her role as a county commissioner.

“I am prepared to confront the challenges ahead and lead Carroll County on a continued path to success,” she said. “As Chair, I promise to continue my record of being open and accessible and use business sense to ensure taxpayers funds are spent wisely. I will stand with our law enforcement and first responders, partner with our cities and schools, advocate for broadband improvements and bring new job opportunities to Carroll County while still protecting our way of life and agricultural heritage.”
