CARROLLTON, GA – The Carrollton High School Girls Trio brought home a state title from the AAAAA Literary competition at Buford High School Saturday while the performances of other CHS competitors secured an impressive third-place overall finish for the team.
Literary scoring is based on a total number of points a team accumulates for place finishes in a variety of performing, writing and speaking competitions. Though the CHS team was runner-up at region, the team produced enough top finishes to take a competitive group to state.
Seniors Emily Patterson and Rachel Skinner and junior Mattie Steed captured the state AAAAA Girls Trio title. Junior Anna Lowry earned a state runner-up medal in Girls Solo. Sophomore Alec Siek also captured a runner-up title in Extemporaneous Speaking while LeCurtis Richardson placed third in Dramatic Interpretation. The team is coached by CHS teachers Richard Bracknell and July Lowry.
