CARROLLTON, GA – Carrollton High School Performing Arts presents “The Miracle Worker” Tuesday, April 23, at 7 p.m. in the Holcombe Theater of the Mabry Center for the Arts.
William Gibson’s “The Miracle Worker” was the winner of the 1960 Tony Award for Best Play. Immortalized onstage and screen by Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke, this classic tells the story of Annie Sullivan and her student, blind and mute Helen Keller. “The Miracle Worker” dramatizes the volatile relationship between the lonely teacher and her charge.
Trapped in a secret, silent world, unable to communicate, Helen is violent, spoiled, almost sub-human and treated by her family as such. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind and spirit waiting to be rescued from the dark, tortured silence. With scenes of intense physical and emotional dynamism, Annie’s success with Helen finally comes with the utterance of a single, glorious word: “water.”
The production is directed by Tommy Cox. Tickets are $5. Call 770-834-2116 for credit card purchases or more information. Tickets may be also be purchased in the Carrollton High School front office, the performing arts office, online through the CHS website (www.chs.carrolltoncityschools.net) or at the door the night of the show.
