Chronic illnesses present unique challenges. A unique, free program from Tanner Health System is designed to help.

If you’re living with an ongoing health problem, Tanner’s Get Healthy, Live Well is offering a free Living Well Workshop that will provide some additional tools that will help you gain control of your symptoms and live a better, healthier life.

The Living Well Workshop helps participants and caregivers manage any lifelong health condition, including — but not limited to — arthritis, being overweight, cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), depression, fibromyalgia, heart disease, high blood pressure, lung disease, multiple sclerosis and stroke.

Research studies have shown that people who completed the workshop experience a more active lifestyle, better health and less time in the hospital. Attendees and their caregiver will learn ways to manage symptoms with the support of trained coaches and other workshop attendees facing similar health concerns.

The Living Well Workshop can help participants learn effective strategies to deal with symptoms, cope with pain, improve nutrition through healthy eating, gain skills in managing medications and work through feelings of anger, fear or frustration. The workshop can also help improve communication with family, friends and health professionals.

Interested individuals are encouraged to attend the six-week workshop beginning Aug. 12 in Carrollton.
