Larry James Smith, 74 of Carrollton, GA, passed away Friday, September 27, 2019 at his home.
Mr. Smith was born on September 21, 1945 in Carroll County, GA, the son of the late James Alter Smith and Euna McLendon Smith. He was a 1963 graduate of Carrollton High School and went on to serve his country in the U. S. Air Force from 1965 to 1969. Mr. Smith had worked as a Salesman at Cash and Carry and for West Georgia Gate and Door Company. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, where he was very involved in many aspects of the church. He was a Sunday school teacher, a member of the Men’s Brotherhood group, Choir, and was involved in the church’s mission work.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Diane Sailors Smith; brother and sister-in-law, Lynn and Marena Smith of Winterville, GA; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Gene Duke of Carrollton, GA; nephew, Keith Smith and his wife Amy of Colbert, GA; nieces, Melissa Eisele, and her husband Jason of Ft. Meyers, FL and Marilyn Smith of Winterville, GA; great nephews, Nolen and McKale Smith; great nieces, Elle, Lila, and Auden Eisele; as well as several cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jerry Smith.
The family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Sunday afternoon, September 29th, from 3:00 – 5:00pm.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held Monday, September 30, 2019 at 11am at Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Tony McManus and Rev. Jamie Beam officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery with American Legion Post #143 providing military honors.
