The Carrollton Board of Education Tuesday night recognized Aprill Jones-Byrd and Kelly Glanton for their years of work with the Carrollton High School Starfish program, a support initiative to help struggling students keep up with their academic studies.
Jones-Byrd founded the program in the mid 2000s and turned it over to Glanton who ran it for several years. The program received state Department of Education recognition in 2009 and its continued success prompted expansion of the program first to Carrollton Junior High School and now Carrollton Upper Elementary School.
During the recognition presentation, CHS Principal David Brooks noted their passion helped “thousands” of CHS students succeed academically and graduate on time.
