Walter Edmond Gilbert, age 83 of Carrollton, passed away January 23, 2020. He was born July 16, 1936 in Dresser, Indiana, son to the late Peter Gilbert and Etta Oricks Gilbert. He proudly served in the United States Army and was a truck driver for Ryder for many years. He was a member of Faithful Gospel Church.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sons, Billy Joe Gilbert and Walter Eugene Gilbert; three brothers, Henry Gilbert, Donald Gilbert and Frank Gilbert; sister, Mary Harmon; and grandson, Billy Joe Gilbert Jr.
He is survived by his wife Thelma Fredrick Gilbert of Carrollton; his children, Peggy Orman (Joe) of Terre Haute, Indiana, Nancy Collins (Larry) of Carrollton, Ricky Gilbert (Lori) of Carrollton, Carol Griffith of Terre Haute, Indiana, Rosie Collins (Patty) of Bradenton, Florida, Brian Gilbert (Brittany) of Carrollton, Curtis Fields of Carrollton, and Troy Fields (Kelly) of Temple; daughter-in-law, Sara Gilbert of Haleyville, Alabama; two sisters, Rosie Matthely (Gary) of West Terre Haute, Indiana, and Mart Pruitt of St. Marys of the Woods, Indiana; brother, Paul Gilbert of West Terre Haute, Indiana; twenty eight grandchildren, a host of great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be conducted Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00 AM from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Bro. Marcus McIntosh officiating. Entombment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
