Helen Weathington Wood, age 81 of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Thursday evening, March 19, 2020. She was born April 21, 1938 in Carroll County, Georgia, the daughter of the late Harvey Weathington and the late Verna Brown Weathington. 

She ran many businesses with her husband, J. W.  She was a member of Roopville Baptist Church.  She loved her church and spending time with family, bird watching, and enjoying time on the porch with J.W. 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Weathington; brother, Hershel Weathington; and son-in-love, Jeff Jackson. 

Survivors include her husband of sixty-one years, John William (J.W.) Wood, Jr.; daughters and sons-in-law: Lisa W. Jackson of Carrollton, Georgia, Dale W. McElwaney (Tony), also of Carrollton, Georgia, Gale W. Haney (John) of Gray, Georgia; and John W. Wood, III (Jane) of Carrollton, Georgia; sister, Myrtle Cook of Carrollton, Georgia; grandchildren:  Jennifer Jackson Phillips (Jeremy), Laura Jackson Gibbs, (Ross), Megan McElwaney McBride ( John Ross), Lucy McElwaney Hall (Cody), Beth Haney Hickman, Matthew Haney, John Wood IV, Hunter Wood (Rachel); great grandchildren:  Anna Kate Phillips, Wade and Conner Gibbs, Emma McBride, Bailey Hall, Cash and Mac Hickman, and Aiden Wood.  

A private family service will be held Saturday, March 21, 2020 at 11:00 AM from Roopville Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Cook and Rev. John Haney officiating.  The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers:  Hunter Wood, Ross Gibbs, Jeremy Phillips, John Ross McBride, Cody Hall, and Andy Etheredge. 

Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made too St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Roy Richards Cancer Center, or Embrace Hospice.   

A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held at a later date and will be posted to our website at that time.  A recording of the service will be available on our website attached to the obituary section for those that are unable to attend.
