Good Evening. As we move forward during these unprecedented times, I want to take a moment to address our district plan for the remainder of the school year.
With continued concern for the safety of our students, staff and community, we have decided to release for summer break on Friday, May 1st, making that our last day of school for students.
Our hope is the situation will return to normal for the next school year which is scheduled to begin in August.
We are very pleased with the daily work being given by teachers and completed by students given the circumstances we have been dealt.
However, students and parents’ ability to effectively continue at-home learning over a LONGER period of time is a concern. We want to ensure we do not add unnecessary stress to families amid what already exists.
FORTUNATELY, our school instructional calendar provides that students will meet all grade-level standards before the milestones testing period.
Therefore, our students will have completed all critical content for each grade by the end of April. The remainder of our school year is used for standardized testing, remediation and enrichment of those standards.
This summer we hope to provide several learning opportunities if circumstances allow. Our annual summer learning and enrichment program, scheduled in June, will become more robust and open to all families at no charge.
We will also provide parents with optional summer review resources for all grades.
To the class of 2020. Your year has been anything but traditional and we are COMMITTED to giving you a graduation to celebrate your MANY accomplishments. More information will be communicated to parents in the coming weeks.
Teachers and staff will continue normal end-of-the-year planning after school concludes in preparation for next school year. More information on this will be communicated by school administrators.
We believe that ending the school year 15 days early is the right decision in these extreme times. We are hopeful that the 20-21 school year will begin as normal in August.
Thank you for your patience and support during this time as we work to do our part to meet students’ needs and keep our entire community safe.
PLEASE remember: take social distancing seriously, stay well, and GO TROJANS!
