Mr. John (Johnny) Henry Hite, age 89 of Whitesburg, Georgia, passed away on April 6, 2020 at his residence. He was born July 25, 1930 in Bartow County, Georgia, the son of the late Henry Richard Hite and the late Maude Beatrice Prewett Hite.
He retired in 1995 from Wellington Mills, having worked as a maintenance chief for forty-five years. He served his community as a volunteer firefighter for thirty years; and served as the Mayor of Whitesburg for twelve and one-half years. He was a devoted member of Eastside Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughters: Melinda Hite Cook, Elisha Hite and Janie Hite Hammond; a grandson, Ronald Chase, Jr., a sister, Pasty West; and brothers: J. C. Hite and Monroe Hite.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years, Mrs. Jossie (Otwell) Hite of Whitesburg, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law: Beatrice & Bill McKenzie of Newnan, Georgia; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth & Jennifer Hite of Winston, Georgia; sister, Nancy Gladney of Carrollton, Georgia; grandchildren: Brandy & Mark Taylor, Bridget & Mike Benton, Kevin & Heather Hite, and Kane Hite; great-grandchildren: Austin & Madison Horton, Michael Benton, Hunter Benton, Shannon Williams; and coming soon, great-great grandson, Cameron Drake Horton.
Private graveside services will be conducted Saturday, April 11, 2020 at 11:00 AM from Whitesburg City Cemetery with Rev. Gary Brown officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Austin Horton, Michael Benton, Hunter Benton, Kevin Hite, Kane Hite, and Ted Holloway. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date for family and friends.
