Harry Lee Cooper of Carrollton passed away June 1, 2020. He was born on August 13, 1923.

Harry was born and raised in Carrollton and graduated from Carrollton High School. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.L. Cooper (Slim and Bernice), brother Calvin Cooper, sisters-in-law Billie Hightower Cooper and Ann Kinsler Cooper, brother-in-law Bob Harris, and great grandchild Camille Elizabeth Bullington.

He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Willene Warren Cooper, sister Betty Harris, brother Gary Cooper (Shirley), and brother-in-law Robert Warren (Kay). He is also survived by his children Steve (Ruth Wilson) Cooper of Newnan, Russell (Jane Denney) Cooper of Perry, and Joe (Gina Davis) Cooper of Centerville. Survivors also include grandchildren Amy Oliver (Rocky) of Shelbyville, KY, Allison Bullington (Nathan) of Louisville, KY, Bethany Copeland (Brett) of Kathleen, GA, Patrick Cooper (Brittany) of Perry, GA, Jennifer Trussell (Brandon) of Bonaire, GA, and Jenison Carroll (Will) of Centerville, GA and 15 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren on the way.

Harry served his country in the US Army signal corp deployed in China and India during World War II. While in the army he attended the University of Missouri. Upon completion of active duty, he returned home and worked for Lawler’s Hosiery Mill, Richards and Associates, and Southwire. During his employment with Richards and Associates, he and Willene lived in Arkansas, Maryland, and every state in between helping to string power lines in communities during the period of rural electrification in the South. As an employee of Southwire, he assisted in the manufacturing of wire and cable that provided the power. He was a recipient of the Southwire Distinguished Service Award.

Harry was a longtime member of St. Andrew United Methodist Church and more recently, Stripling Chapel United Methodist Church. At St. Andrew he served on the Administrative board, served as Sunday School Superintendent, church treasurer, and was awarded the Distinguished Christian Service award. He also served in various PTAs and Booster clubs over the many years that his children attended school and played sports in the Central School district. A longtime member of the Carroll Masonic Lodge #69 F&AM, he served as Worshipful Master in 1961.

Graveside service and interment will be at Carroll Memory Gardens on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jimmy Bryan and Rev. Marlin Miller officiating.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Kevin McLaughlin and West Georgia Urology, Dr. Michael Poss and the Wiggins Medical Clinic, the Sacred Journey Hospice for excellent care. Dr. Poss was his personal physician for many years as well as during his recent illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Stripling Chapel United Methodist church and/or Sacred Journey Hospice are suggested.
