CARROLLTON, GA –  Carrollton High School seniors Natalie Davis and Dale Drummond have been named Commended Students in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program, David Brooks, CHS principal, announced earlier this week. They each will be presented a Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corp., which conducts the program.

This honor recognizes Dale’s and Natalie’s exceptional academic promise, placing them in a cohort of 34,000 Commended Students nationwide. Although they will not continue in the 2021 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students are among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®).

While their academic prowess is reflected in their Commended Student status, Natalie, the daughter of the Rev. Dr. Steve Davis of Carrollton and the late Sheri Davis, is also involved in student council and is a two-sport athlete who competes in soccer and volleyball.  Dale, the son of Kevin and Alison Drummond of Carrollton, is also on the student council and has already committed to join the Georgia Army National Guard following graduation.

Last week, classmate Carley Jennings was named a National Merit semifinalist who will find out in February whether she will continue on in the competition for National Merit scholarships.

“All of these students are among our top academic performers, but are also well-rounded, versatile students involved in many school activities,” said Brooks. “That is a combination for life success that will serve them well. We are very proud of all of them.”
