John Walter Smith, Jr., age 91 of Bowdon, Georgia, passed away on Friday afternoon, May 7, 2021 at his residence. He was born December 23, 1929 in Bowdon, Georgia, the son of the late John Walter Smith, Sr. and the late Mary Jim Gilreath Smith. He graduated from Bowdon High School, and retired from Lockheed Martin with thirty-eight years of service. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Bowdon and was a member of the Masons F&AM for over 50 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Dorothy Mozelle Holt Smith; son, John W. Smith, III; grandson, Timothy Shane Smith; and brother, Edward Smith. Survivors include his sons and daughter-in-law: Timothy K. Smith of Carrollton, Georgia, and Larry Edward Smith, and his wife, Mary Ann Smith, also of Carrollton, Georgia; brothers and sisters-in-law: Jerry & Kaylene Smith and Gene & Jane Smith, all of Carrollton, Georgia; grandchildren: Nicole Smith, Matthew Smith, and Adrian Smith, all of Carrollton, Georgia; Jennifer Bailey of Villa Rica, Georgia, Susan Wilkerson of Temple, Georgia, and Candace Jackson of Greenville, South Carolina; six great grandchildren; eight nieces, and three nephews.
The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Monday, May 10, 2021 from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM in the Chapel with Rev. Randy Simpkins officiating. Graveside Services will be held Wednesday, May 12, 2021 at 1:00 PM from Midway Church Cemetery.
