As the events in Ukraine unfold, people around the world have been inspired to offer support. With hospitals and health workers being targeted as they address the immense humanitarian crisis, Tanner Health System physicians and employees are driven to help.
Tanner has launched “Tanner United With Ukraine,” supporting the Emergency Relief Fund of Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). The fund addresses the mental, emotional and physical well-being of the people living on the front lines of conflict. Tanner Uniterd With Ukraine
MSF is a 50-year-old, Nobel Prize-winning global organization providing medical aid where it’s needed most. It is one of the top-rated nonprofits by charity rating organizations like Charity Navigator and Charity Watch.
With hospitals in Ukraine reporting that they are running out of supplies, MSF’s Emergency Relief Fund is raising urgently needed money to get essential staff and medical supplies into Ukraine and in surrounding Poland, Moldova, Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.
The situation is evolving so rapidly that MSF is racing to deliver medications and supplies to towns before they are cut off from the rest of the country. Emergency response teams are caring for the wounded and those without access to basic supplies like medicine, heating, electricity or clean water.
“Our medical community stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine,” said Loy Howard, president and CEO of Tanner. “This war is causing unnecessary suffering. Everywhere in Ukraine, heroic healthcare workers are struggling to deliver care — even amid indiscriminate shelling and bombing. We felt Doctors Without Borders was our best way to show our support for the healthcare professionals in Ukraine, throughout Europe and around the world.”
