Georgia Cities Week
Whitesburg will celebrate Georgia Cities Week April 23-29 with a variety of events throughout the week.
The City Council will observe the week with a resolution recognizing the special observance. The City’s water department will hold a customer appreciation day on Friday, April 28, at the Recreation Center with information, refreshments and prizes.
On Thursday, April 27, the Friends of the Whitesburg Public Library will meet at the library at 11 a.m. to begin a cleanup of Main Street, using bags and pickup sticks provided by Keep Carroll Beautiful. The city will hold a second clean-up day on Saturday, April 29, with other organizations and individuals participating, also using items provided by Keep Carroll Beautiful. The theme for the cleanups will be DTOC – Don’t Trash Our City. Contact City Council member Lucy Gamble at 770-328-8627 for more information on how to participate.
The Friends of the Whitesburg Public Library will host the play, The Belle of Amherst, on Saturday, April 29, at 2 p.m. as part of the week’s events. The one-woman play about Emily Dickinson will be performed by Sybil Rosen, an award-winning playwright, novelist and actress. The play is described as funny, poignant, lyrical and wise, as it investigates the poet’s unusual life. Whitesburg United Methodist Church, 480 Church Street, across the street from Whitesburg Elementary School will provide the location for the play. No tickets or reservations are required, and donations will be appreciated. All proceeds will benefit the Whitesburg Public Library.
