Richard Hamilton Jennings, age 88, of Carrollton, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at Tanner Medical Center. He was born March 9, 1935, in Carrollton, Georgia, the son of the late Ralph H. Jennings and Ruby Richards Jennings.
Richard loved playing his guitar and singing each Sunday at Friendship Baptist Church in Douglas County, where he was a member. He served his country as a member of the US Army during the Korean Conflict. While serving in the Army, he had a band that loved entertaining other troops. A member of that band was the famous country musician and singer Roger Miller, who was the fiddle player for the group.
On March 13, 2010, he married the “Love of his life” and gained five children, 16 grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren, whom he loved as his own, and they truly loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents: his first wife, Juanita Fancher Jennings; sister, Linda Ray; brother, Larry Jennings; and son, Ricky Huckeba; a dear friend who was like family, Rip Steele Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline Huckeba Jennings; sisters, Jean Austin and Billy Wright; Rita and John Cortez; sister-in-law, JoAnn Jennings; daughters, Mandy and Wes Carnes, Shanda and Brian Cook; sons, Mike Huckeba, Steven and Lisa Huckeba; daughter-in-law, Lana Huckeba; also surviving are sixteen grandchildren as well as a number of great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted in the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at 1:00 PM, with John Huckeba and Pastor Eric Evans officiating. Internment will follow in the Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Brian Cook, Wes Carnes, Rick Carnes, Bill Walker, Jeff Jennings, and Jay Strawn. The American Legion Post #143 will make the flag presentation.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, at Martin & Hightower from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
