The Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum invites you to experience the Sacred Threads Exhibit, which will be on display from January 2 – March 23, 2024. Sacred Threads features 38 quilts all centered around the themes of Brotherhood, Grief, Healing, Inspiration, Joy, Peace, and Spirituality.Â
Each quilt will feature an audio story of the artist to explain their quilt’s story to the viewer. One quilt featured in this show, entitled Blessed are the Piecemakers, was created as a tribute to Susan Price’s mother, who spent her working life as a seamstress and sample maker in the garment industry. Another piece, tells the story of Gabriele Ditota’s mother, of being forced from her home in Germany on November 9, 1946.
The Sacred Thread community storytelling series will expand on the exhibit themes allowing for greater community involvement and connections. It will feature a mix of invited storytellers, along with a safe platform for audience participation. This series will be held starting at 7:00 pm on the third Saturday of each month from January through March of 2024. The series is geared for adult audiences, but everyone over the age of 12 is invited to attend. This is a free public event.
The community is also invited to join us in the Sacred Threads Exhibit Gallery for yoga on the first Sundays of January – March. This 45-minute relaxing yoga practice will be led by Angie. Please bring your own mat, donations are appreciated.
