Michael Buchanan, age 74, passed away on April 29, 2024, peacefully in his sleep following a decline in health over the last couple of months. Michael was born in Carrollton, Georgia, on December 7, 1949, to Troy and Lucille Golden Buchanan. Even though he was the firstborn, he was still his Mother’s Baby Boy.

Michael was one of a kind…he had a heart of gold and was a little rough around the edges, but he was a very giving man. He loved to clown with others and always had a story to tell. He enjoyed collecting guns, old cars, and spare equipment, so he had a replacement if something went down or extras if a storm break occurred. His main passion in life was working and making money…his philosophy was that there wasn’t a day long enough to get a full day’s work done. He was raised on a dairy farm in Bucktown and worked construction all over the country in his adult years. For the last forty years, he has worked in the Right-of-Way Construction business, maintaining powerline right-of-ways for power companies. He had been in business with several partners over the years, and in the last 20 years, he had been partnering with his wife at Treeline Services, LLC. He has been a father figure to many young men whom he trained. In his later years, if you saw him, you saw his two Pomeranians, Cocoa Puff and Bribear…a running joke with many was they were his Emotional Support Dogs, and if he became upset, friends would tell him to go pet his fur babies and calm down. Some are probably glad he is gone, but he will be missed tremendously by the love of his life, Risha, his precious Babygirl Bella, his favorite son-in-law, Nathan, and his family, as well as many employees who became like family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his father-in-law, Wayne Cavender.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of almost 22 years, Risha Cavender Buchanan; daughter, Bella Montana Buchanan; daughter and son-in-law, Jessica and Nathan Whatley; four grandchildren, Violet Whatley, Colter Whatley, Gemma Whatley, and Hattie Whatley; and siblings Steve (Kathie) Buchanan and Debbie (Harvey) Kendrick.

On Friday, May 3, 2024, the family will receive friends at Moments Funeral Home in Lucedale, Mississippi, from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM CST. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Moments Funeral Home on Saturday, May 4, 2024, at 3:00 PM, with Bro. Keith Arrington officiating.
