Johnny Simmons, 74, of Waco, Georgia, passed away on June 30, 2024. He was born on December 15, 1949, in Douglasville, Georgia, the son of the late Sylvia Clarence Simmons and Carl Lois Jones Simmons.
Johnny dedicated several years of his life to serving in the United States Army, where he demonstrated unwavering commitment and bravery. His passion for fishing, riding motorcycles, and immersing himself in the sounds of classic rock music brought him great joy. Johnny found solace and happiness in the great outdoors. However, his heart belonged to his beloved grandsons, whom he cherished deeply.
In addition to his parents, he was welcomed into Heaven by his loving wife of 33 years, Carol Annette Bishop Simmons; sisters, Juanita Brannon and Gaynell Parker; and brothers, Leroy Simmons, Ralph Simmons, Junior Simmons, and Robert Simmons.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Jed Crawford; grandsons, Jonathan Crawford and Matthew Crawford; and sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline and Meryl Bryson, Dorothy and Bryon Ledford, Gladys and Randy Jiles, and Sarah Terrell.
The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Sunday, July 7, 2024, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
A funeral service will be held to honor and celebrate Johnny’s life on Monday, July 8, 2024, at 3:00 PM from Bethel Baptist Church, with Bro. Todd Voyles officiating. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 12:00 PM until the hour of service.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers: Jonathan Crawford, Matthew Crawford, Jason McLarty, Mark Simmons, Tony Simmons, and Paul Simmons. Jed Crawford, Robert Bishop, Allen Yearta, and Roger Williams will be seated as honorary pallbearers.
