ATLANTA (June 27, 2019) |Senate Majority Leader Mike Dugan (R – Carrollton) recently announced updates on several Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) projects occurring in District 30.

“I want to commend our local leaders and community for working with GDOT to secure these projects for our district,” said Majority Leader Dugan. “Each of these projects is vital to ensuring our infrastructure is up to date and that our citizens can travel safely throughout the region. These projects are the result of teamwork between our citizens who saw a need for improvement and our local leaders who met with GDOT to secure the necessary funding and project approval. I encourage anyone who recognizes an area where upgrades can be made to increase driver safety to reach out so that we can ensure future necessary projects are brought to Senate District 30.”

The first project addresses work on I-20 that began on September 12, 2016, and will be completed by July 2020. This two-phase project is complex with the work addressing removal of concrete, grading of subgrade, placement of recycled graded aggregate base, and asphalt and concrete paving. In order to address additional necessary work, the project’s original completion date of October 31, 2019, was pushed to July 2020 so that additional safety enhancements such as two-foot shoulder widening, accident investigation sites, glare screens on top of the barrier wall and a moveable gate within the barrier wall could be included.

The City of Temple’s request to add left turn lanes at the intersection of GA 113 and GA 78 is the second project that has been scheduled for the district. Funding for this project and the bidding process will begin in Fiscal Year 2020, which starts on July 1, 2019.

The third project is one that will be addressed in the near future by GDOT. Currently, the estimate for the project requires funding from the Fiscal Year 2022 budget. The department is working with the City of Villa Rica to secure the necessary commitments to get the project up and running. Future updates will be provided as the project is finalized.
