Legendary country stars BlackHawk will bring three decades of hits to Carrollton’s Amp, Saturday, October 21 at 8pm.
BlackHawk was founded in 1992 by lead vocalist/guitarist Henry Paul, vocalist/guitarist Van Stephenson and keyboardist/vocalist Dave Robbins. Paul had been a member of the Southern rock band Outlaws and Stephenson had a pop hit in 1984 with Modern Day Delilah. After the latter, Robbins and Stephenson began writing songs together, including several singles for the band Restless Heart. After exiting Outlaws, Paul began writing with Robbins and Stephenson as well and the three decided to form a band.
The band’s debut single, Goodbye Says It All, peaked at Number 11 on Billboard Hot Country Singles chart and their first album, BlackHawk, was certified two times multi-platinum. The band continued to release hit albums and singles like Every Once in a While, I Sure Can Smell the Rain, Down in Flames and That’s Just About Right.
Later hits like I’m Not Strong Enough To Say No, Like There Ain’t No Yesterday, Big Guitar, Almost A Memory Now, There You Have It and Postmarked Birmingham continued an unprecedented run of hits for a band that never quite fit the standard country mold. Stephenson passed away in 2001, leaving the trio as a duo. The band and its fans have raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars for the Van Stephenson Memorial Cancer Fund at Nashville’s Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.
Paul and Robbins continue to record and release new music and keep up an active touring schedule.
The Amp concert is sponsored by Scott Evans Nissan and Scott Evans Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram.
Homegrown, consisting of brothers Craig and Kevin Brannon, will open the show. The group got their start more than a decade ago playing music with schoolmates in and around Carrollton. The duo has recorded four albums, played venues and radio stations nationwide and broke the Top 30 on Music Row and Top 50 on Billboard Indicator with singles Summer Song and She Loves To Ride.
