Benjamin “Ben” Kay Skipper Sr., age 78, of Whitesburg, Georgia, passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023. He was born September 30, 1945, in Byron, Georgia, the son of the late Sol Skipper and Eloise Hardy Skipper.
Ben graduated from A. R. Willingham High School in Macon, Georgia, and went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force. He worked as a butcher at Winn-Dixie for 32 years. Following his retirement in 2000, he went to work at North Georgia Turf, where he enjoyed 15 years. Ben was a longtime and faithful member of Whitesburg United Methodist Church. He was a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene Skipper, Tim Skipper, and Calvin Skipper.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife of 56 years, Judy McElwain Skipper; son and daughter-in-law, Ben and Lani Skipper; grandson, Chase Benjamin Skipper; sister, Martha Sangster; and brother, David Skipper.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Martin & Hightower Funeral Home, with Rev. Martha Dye officiating. The American Legion Post #143 will render military honors, and the following gentlemen will serve as honorary pallbearers: Larry Carroll, David Skipper, Chase Skipper, John Pate, Chris Purvis, Danny Pate, Rick Sangster, and Scotty Sangster.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, November 18, 2023, from 12:00 noon until the hour of service.
