The Carrollton Parks and Recreation Department announces the inaugural Run Carrollton Race Series, starting February 1.

“Our department is excited to offer the Run Carrollton Race Series,” said CPRD Director John Layng. “Our staff has put together a great plan to showcase all areas of our great city and we look forward to seeing everyone at our first one in February.”

The series features a trio of races over the course of the year covering a range of distances, from a one-mile speed race to a challenging 10K.

First in the line-up is the Big Crush Rush, February 1. The race starts at 9am at the Target GreenBelt trailhead. This race features 5K and one-mile distances and organizers encourage runners to use the race to set a personal record or establish their baseline for building their performance for the rest of the year.

The series continues this summer with Guns n’ Hoses, July 19. This race will start at Carrollton City Hall at 7am and will feature two and four-mile distances. Participants will support charities chosen by the city’s first responders, the Carrollton Police and Fire departments, by choosing either blue for police or red for fire to represent in the race.  Red Team participants will run to benefit Alice’s House while Blue Team runners will benefit the inclusive, special needs playground initiative.

Closing the series’ first year will be the Running Dead Road Race, October 11 at 8am. Runners are encouraged to dress in Halloween gear for the 5K and 10K races which start in the city cemetery at Midtown Water Park.
