Nettie Lou Dukes, 85, peacefully passed away on Monday, January 6, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 4, 1939, in Whitesburg, Georgia, the cherished daughter of the late James Charles Duke and Annie Phillips Duke.

Nettie was a devoted wife and mother who was dedicated to nurturing her family. She took great pride in creating a warm and welcoming home. Gardening was one of her favorite pastimes, where she found joy in tending to her flowers and vegetables. Beyond her role as a homemaker, Nettie was also committed to her faith as a Jehovah’s Witness, actively participating in her community and sharing her beliefs with others. Her deep sense of purpose and love for her family and faith defined her life.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Marvin Ray Dukes Sr.; her son, Marvin Ray Dukes Jr.; and her brothers, David Duke, Dalton Duke, and Robert Duke. Their memories held a special place in her heart, and she often spoke fondly of the love and joy they brought into her life.

She is survived by her loving family, which includes her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Rudel Sticher; daughter, Nettie Rebecca Dukes; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Joy Dukes and Michael and Amanda Dukes; and sister-in-law, Gail Thrower. Nettie’s legacy continues through her grandchildren – Jessica Phillips, Brandon Duke, Heather Hutcheson, Amber Ridgeway, Zackary Stitcher, Tyler Dukes, Hunter Dukes, Blake Dukes, and Cody Dukes – and her numerous great-grandchildren, who carry her spirit and love in their hearts.

To honor and celebrate Nettie’s life, the family will receive friends on Thursday, January 9, 2025, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home. In accordance with Nettie’s wishes, she has been cremated.
