Clarence Lewis Huddleston, age 94, of Roopville, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Clarence was born on November 6, 1930, in Randolph County, Alabama, as one of eight children of Joel David Huddleston and Martha Francis Moore Huddleston. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Will, Robert, Dorsey, and Lloyd Huddleston, and his sisters Opal Huddleston, Elsie Wilder, and Marie Kent.
Clarence leaves behind a cherished wife of 70 years, Shirley Huddleston, whom he married the day after her 18th birthday. Together, they exemplified a lifetime of love that will be cherished by their son, Mike Huddleston; daughter, Angie Bradley; grandchildren, Austin & Lari Clark and Anderson & Summer Bradley; and great-grandchildren, Jack, Hank, and Ben Clark and Briggs Bradley.
Affectionately known as “Mr. Clarence” by many of his customers at Huddleston Grocery in Stoney Point, he touched the lives of countless individuals. However, he always acknowledged that it was not solely a one-man operation; Shirley worked just as hard, mainly behind the scenes. Clarence was a longtime and dedicated member of Sardis Baptist Church and belonged to the Loftin Masonic Lodge #688 F&AM for over 70 years. He was a loving and caring husband, dad, granddaddy, great-granddaddy, and friend.
We will miss his dry sense of humor, sarcastic one-liners, and endearing nicknames. A fan of tomato crackers and a cold Coke, Clarence loved life and lived it fully. Some of his biggest smiles were from holding and watching his four great-grandsons.
The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM.
A funeral service will honor and celebrate Clarence’s life on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Sardis Baptist Church, with Rev. Darnell Teal and Rev. Kevin Geter officiating. Mike Huddleston and Lari Clark will render the eulogy. Interment and Masonic Rites will follow in the church cemetery, with Tim Eady, Ricky Huddleston, Kenneth Huddleston, Scott Cummings, Robbie Langley, Don Fletcher, and Ray Mashburn serving as pallbearers.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Ann Iller and the Iller House for their care and compassion towards Mr. Clarence and the Huddleston family.
Flowers are welcome, but memorial contributions may also be made in Mr. Clarence’s memory to Sardis Baptist Church, 4265 GA-100, Bowdon, GA 30108, or to the Ephesus Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 243, Franklin, GA 30217.
While we grieve the loss here on earth, we thank God for the gift of being Clarence Huddleston’s family. He lived a life of family and faith, and we will continue to carry that legacy.
